Lobster Gangs

The New York Times has an interesting article about escalating tensions among lobstermen in Maine. Lobstering territory has been regulated informally for decades and was the focus of a classic study by Acheson in the 1980s (though the NYT sadly neglects to give Acheson his props). I compared lobster localism and surfing localism in my 'Tragicomedy' paper and probably took the parallel a little further than I should have. It looks like the lobster wars are getting even more serious as the industry has fallen on hard times.

FYI, I've been too busy to blog much lately. Status updates on the pernicious Facebook are easier. I'll keep updating here occasionally for the few free thinking non-Facebook folks who still visit.
